In America unhealthy food is commonplace from restaurants to school cafeterias. However it is best not to limit unhealthy foods to the west as Thailand's signature cuisine isn't for models. Like most Asian nations Thailand has steamed and grilled dishes but dishes with high dairy content and high fat content are popular. Inspired by it's Thai, it's tasty ,and it isn't very healthy I analyzed which Thai dishes make a big mac look like a celery stick. Just tidbits of information to use when your coworkers or significant other forces you to go to a new Thai place in your town.
1. Hoy Tod
This Thai version of fried clams has been fodder for Thai festivals for years . It's cholesterol will also be in your heart for years at 650 calories per serving. The clams itself isn't want make it unhealthy it's the Atkins dieter nightmare of a carbohydrate dense batter and the saturated fat filled cooking oil to fry it.
2. Congee
Common in Asia like chopsticks and soy sauce this Thai variation on a Asian breakfast classic isn't overly fattening or calorie dense. The secret to Congee's unhealthy nature is it lacks the nutrients compared to a well balanced meal. It can cause cravings for meat and salty foods due to it's lack of protein and sodium. However unlike the other foods on this list Congee's ingredients can accommodate anything from abalone to asparagus . And nutritional content can easily change as well.
3. Pad Thai
Arguably one of the most popular of Thai dishes and one of the most heartiest foods of all time. Personally I can never find myself able to finish this masterpiece of noodles, fish sauce, meat, bean sprouts, coriander, peanuts, and lime. Also a masterpiece of unhealthiness with carbohydrates, saturated fats, and stomach churning spices.
4. Kung Pao Chicken
This Thai dish of Sichuan Chinese origin is similar in taste and preparation to it's East Asian predecessor. It's mainly unhealthy for it's saturated fat content which is over 30 grams of fat .
5. Tom Kha
It is a spicy soup made of coconut milk and galangal powder that has a savory yet smoky flavor to it. This dish would otherwise be healthy if it weren't for the coconut milk. Coconut milk is vastly different from animal fat as it doesn't have cholesterol yet it does contain copious amounts of plant fat.
While it's important to know what's healthy and what's not. Moderation is the key to eating out so eat in small portions.
